More Than a Red Suit
For me, being Santa is about more than looking the part.
It is about creating joy, wonder, and a moment that feels real.
Every child who comes to see me deserves to be seen, heard, respected, welcomed, and loved for who they are.
Some children run right up to Santa. Some hang back. Some want to talk for ten minutes. Some do not want to talk at all.
That is okay.
I believe the best Santa visit happens when the child is allowed to experience Santa on their own terms.
If that means sitting in Santa’s chair while I sit nearby, getting down on the floor to be at their level, lowering my voice, or simply giving them space, that is what I will do.
A child never has to earn Santa’s kindness.
They already deserve it.

Santa Is Proud of You
When a child leaves me, I hope they believe two things:
I really met Santa.
And:
Santa was proud of me.
Not because they were perfect.
Not because they had a perfect year.
Not because they checked every box on a “Nice List.”
I believe children are at their best when they are allowed to be true to themselves and when they are kind to others.
For me, the Nice List is not something a child has to earn.
It is where every child begins.

The Memory Matters More Than the Photograph
I love a great Santa photo.
But the picture is not the whole experience.
The real memory may be the laugh that happened right before the picture.
It may be Santa knowing something special about a child.
It may be a quiet conversation.
It may be a parent watching their child believe.
The best Santa encounter is one where a family walks away with more than a photograph.
They walk away with a story they will tell again.
Years from now, I hope they do not simply say:
“We had pictures with Santa.”
I hope they say:
“Remember the Christmas when Santa came?”

You Do Not Have to Believe in Santa
Children grow up.
Eventually, someone will look at me and say:
“I do not believe in Santa anymore.”
That is okay.
I am not there to argue with them.
My answer is simple:
“That’s okay. I believe in you.”
For a young child, Santa may mean presents, reindeer, elves, and Christmas Eve.
As we grow older, Santa can mean something different.
Kindness.
Generosity.
Hope.
Acceptance.
Joy.
And sometimes just knowing that someone still believes there is something good in you.
You do not have to believe in Santa. Santa believes in you.

Santa Is for Grown-Ups, Too
Santa is not only for children.
Sometimes the person sitting beside me is a parent, grandparent, or senior who has not talked to Santa in decades.
That moment can be just as meaningful.
Growing older does not mean we stop needing joy.
It does not mean we stop needing wonder.
And it certainly does not mean we stop needing someone to make us feel special.
Sometimes Santa gets to bring someone back, just for a moment, to a Christmas they remember from long ago.
Those moments matter to me, too.

The Man Behind Santa
When the suit comes off, I am a husband, father, grandfather, helper, and carer.
But I never completely stop being Santa.
Being Santa has made me more empathetic.
It has given me a way to share joy throughout the year.
And somewhere along the way, something unexpected happened.
Being Santa calmed my soul.
The coat may come off.
Christmas may pass.
But the patience, kindness, caring, and desire to make someone’s day a little brighter stay with me.
Santa has become more than something I do.
He has become part of who I am.

The Santa Jim Promise
When you meet Santa Jim, my goal is simple.
I will see you.
I will listen to you.
I will respect you.
I will welcome you.
I will meet you where you are.
And whether you believe in Santa or not:
Santa believes in you.
My job is not simply to look like Santa Claus.
My job is to leave you with a little more joy and wonder than you had before we met.
